Overview of New Professionals Network

The New Professionals Network serves as a resource for those new to the field of coastal resource management. It offers networking, education and skill-building opportunities and also acts as a stepping stone to bring new members into the New Jersey Coastal Resilience Collaborative. The Network is no-cost and open to any individual interested in building their career in coastal work. Likewise, established professionals are encouraged to connect to share their expertise with new professionals.

Specific goals and outcomes for the network include:

  • Foster an inclusive community that encourages relationship-building, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among members from diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Provide skills seminars and workshops focused on key competencies for coastal professionals (e.g., stakeholder engagement, project management, GIS, science communication, grant writing).
  • Develop peer-to-peer learning opportunities where members can share tools, techniques, and lessons learned from their own projects.
  • Share resources on career pathways, job opportunities, fellowships, and internships in coastal management, policy, and research.
  • Encourage new professionals to take on leadership roles within NJCRC initiatives and committees to build confidence and experience.
  • Facilitate opportunities for members to present their work, contribute to collaborative projects, and engage in regional and national networks.
  • Foster an environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences in shaping the future of coastal resource management.
